AURORA, Missouri -- Rev. Chuck Rinehart, Aurora, Missouri, formerly of Findlay, Ohio, died Wednesday evening in Arkansas from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was 53. He was born March 1, 1953 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Dwight Earl "Dewey" and Barbara Ann (Barth) Rinehart.
On March 27, 1976, he married Debra Johnson in Ottumwa, Iowa. She survives him of the home. Additional survivors include his mother, Barbara Rinehart; sister, Beverly Knicely and husband, Phillip; and their son, Nathan, all of Findlay, Ohio. His father and grandparents preceded him in death. Chuck (affectionately known as the 'pistol packin' preacher') moved to the Lawrence County community in 1982. He started his pastoral career in Aurora in 1984 as the assistant pastor, youth leader and Sunday school teacher of the Aurora Bible Church. He went on to help build and pastor the church for 21 years. It was his first and only pastorate. During this time he was also a police officer. Initially working for the Aurora Police Department as Lieutenant, he then worked as a juvenile officer for the 39th Judicial Court, the Aurora School District as the In School Suspension Teacher, Bus Driver and Cafeteria DJ and the Monett Police Department, where he was currently employed at the time of his death. He was the School Resource and Public Education Officer for Monett. He did seminars on how to handle bank robberies and bombings; he developed a program adopted by schools within the Barry/Lawrence Counties called 'Standing Tall In The Hall,' and, spoke to local scouting organizations. He was the Lawrence County and Aurora Police Departments Chaplain and Lawrence County Sheriff's Department Reserve Officer. Chuck truly loved the Lord and people and dedicated his life to helping his community.
