Ivan D. Colter, the son of George and Mattie (Mc Knight) Colter was born November 16, 1927 at Poplar Bluff, Missouri and passed away at 6:10. AM on Thursday, August 5, 2010, making his age 82 years, 8 months and 20 days.
Ivan was united in marriage to Wilma Miller Gestmeyer January 27, 1951. To their union five children were born; Sharon Colter, Sheila Kamyk, Steven Colter, Gary Colter, and Angela Colter. Diane (Gestmeyer) Connelly entered into their marriage at 11 months old and became Ivan's first child.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 890, Raymondville, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy from December 8, 1945 to September 17, 1947.
His pastimes included hunting, fishing, Cardinals baseball, singing and playing guitar, riding his tractor, tending the fish in his pond and playing cards. His personal favorite thing these past few years was looking at Wilma and patting her leg.
He is preceded in death by his father George Colter; mother Mattie (Mc Knight) Colter; brother Leonard Scofield; brother Harvey Pennington; sister Brady Parker; brother Willie Colter; infant brother Vernon Colter; infant sister Eve Mae Colter; and his daughter, Diane Connelly.
Surviving are his brother, Lester Colter; sister Marie Toler; and sister Betty Swain. Ivan is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and a host of other family members who loved him.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with Rev. Emmett Bradford and Rev. Dorvan Stringer officiating. Military Honors and Interment were in Midvale Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home. [Summersville Beacon Aug 10, 2010]
