John Buchanan Steely son of Dr. and Mrs. John Alexander Steely was born September 3, 1863 in Centertown, Mo. and passed away at his home near Elk Creek, Mo., June 21, 1947 at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 18 days.
He moved with his parents when only three years old to a farm on Roubidoux where they lived for a few years. Then later moved near Elk Creek where he has lived for about 70 years.
He is the last survivor of a family of 10 children.
The Steely Chapel church having been named for his father and he was a member of the Methodist church.
He was united in marriage to Effie Wooden March 15, 1886 and to this union five children were born. Ida May, Myrtle Creek, Ore., Annie Lee, Moulton, Ia., James Franklin and Archie of Elk Creek.
His wife passed away March 20, 1895 and he was later married to Settie Jane Sigman April 20, 1913 and two children were born to this union., Cona Buchanan of the home and Berthena Marie of Elk Creek.
He was a kind father and a good neighbor. He taught the Christian way of life to his children and will be kindly remembered by them for his many good examples of life.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, six children, 29 grandchildren and many friends.
The funeral service was arranged by the Elliott Gentry Funeral Home at Steely Chapel Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Payton Smyer. Burial was made in church cemetery.
