Donald "Don" H. Warnes, 52, of 2416 Ellis St., Stevens Point, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in West Plains, Mo. Burial also will take place in West Plains. Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Don was born in Napa, Calif., on Jan. 11, 1954, to Ralph and Shirley (Mondragon) Warnes. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and following his honorable discharge he worked as a cook in several different restaurants.
He was married to Valerie DeWitt on Nov. 17, 1984, in Denver. They later divorced. Don enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, being outdoors and country music. He was an active member of the American Legion.
Don is survived by his mother, Shirley; son, Jared (Robin Graves); three sisters, Barbara Coach, Josephine Mondragon and Suzanne Anderson, all of West Plains; one brother, David Warnes of West Plains; and special friends, Michael Slagowski, Valerie Slagowski, Terrie Wilkenson and Darren Beachem.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; and special friend, Edward Slagowski. [Stevens Point Journal, Stevens Point, WI, June 16, 2006]
