T.E. Graves, Kirksville's postmaster for nearly four years, died at his home, 310 East Illinois street, of pneumonia, Thursday night of last week, aged 73 years, 7 months and 3 days. Mr. Graves had been a resident of Kirksville for 35 years, and for more than 30 years was in active business life, first in the livery business and afterward in the grocery business. He was born in Lewis county and was married to Dollie Ann Resk in 1847 [sic]. To this union seven children were born two of them dying in infancy. The only son, Dr. William Graves, died April 23, 1917. The remaining children are Mrs. Jennie B. Mason, Miss Lottie Graves[,] Miss Bessie Graves and Mrs. Lonnie F. Gibbs. He leaves 4 grandchildren, Miss Virginia Graves of Chicago; Farrand Young, who is with Company C in France; Lloyd Young, who is in Cuba, and Master Frank Mason. He also leaves one brother, Jas. H. Graves, of Canton; and three sisters, Mrs. James T. Lloyd, of Washington, D.C., Mrs. James Penn, of Shelbyville, and Mrs. W.B. McRoberts, of Canton. Funeral took place from the home Sunday afternoon. Burial in Forest cemetry [sic] under the auspices of the Odd Fellows.
