Coroner's July Says He Was Slain by An Unidentified Person.

Identity of the man who murdered James W. Conley, 56, at his home, 1415 N. Elson Street, about 2 o'clock Saturday morning remains as much of a mystery today as it was immediately following discovery of the body, according to statements by officers today. Conley was killed by a blow on the forehead with a heavy wine bottle, the officers believe.
An inquest held by Coroner W. C. Summers at the Summers & Powell Funeral Home Monday evening, failed to bring out any additional information concerning the slaying. The jury returned a verdict that Conley came to his death at the hands of some person unknown to the jury.
Obe Lowe, 1501 N. Elson, one of the main witnesses, said that he had seen Conley about 6 o'clock Friday evening mowing his lawn, but did not see him any more that day. He said he did not see anyone about the place that evening. Mr. Lowe said that a man came to their home about 2 o'clock Saturday morning and asked where Jim Conley lived and he told him.
He said the man was small and slim, droop-shouldered, was bare headed, wore a light colored shirt and dark trousers. He said that he last saw him running east on Elizabeth Street. That was after Mr. Lowe had told him of hearing broken glass and heard a call for help. He said all the movements of the man were quick.
Lowe said that when he went over to Conley's house he saw him lying face down in a pool of blood and when he found he was dead, he notified the city police department.
Others who testified were Mrs. Lowe, Mrs. Wilcher, Policemen Henry Morris and Ed Jones, who answered the call from Mr. Lowe, and Merchant Policeman Len Wright.
