Carol W. Wilson, 83, of Phoenix, Ariz., died July, 24, 2011, at Hospice of Arizona in Peoria, Ariz.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Frankford Christian Church in Frankford, Mo. Private burial will follow at the Frankford Cemetery.

Carol was born May, 29, 1928, in Frankford, Mo., to Edward and Mabel Wilson.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Carroll of Robinson, Ill., a daughter, Brenda Elliott of St Louis, Mo., a daughter, Cindy Oaks (Richard) of Houston, Texas, a son, Ron Wilson (Laurie) of Peoria, Ariz., and son, Randy Wilson (Kathy) of Surprise, Ariz.; one sister, Elaine Lippincott of Hannibal, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Orvee Hografe, of Independence, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Louise Wilson of Hannibal, Mo.; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, J.P. Wilson; sisters, Helen Brewer, Evea Grace Stark, Mary Hografe and infant sister, Clara Virginia Wilson.

Carol attended Frankford High School and moved to St Louis, where he owned and operated a gas station and then worked as a service writer for Andy Burger Ford. In 1964, he and his family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and he became a Fleet Salesman for Sanderson Ford. He was a top salesman for Sanderson and won many awards. He worked there for 38 years until he retired in 2002.

He was an avid mule trainer and participated in parades both in Arizona and California.

He competed against Auggie Busch of Budweiser and the Borax Mule teams and won first place, with a horse drawn carriage driven by a pair of appaloosa mules, two years in a row.

He never knew a stranger and was blessed with many friends in St Louis and Arizona, but never forgot his roots were in Frankford, where as a young boy was given the nickname of “Popeye.”

He had a great sense of humor and will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
