1895 - 1986
Leonard Levi Douglas, 91, of Kirksville, passed away Tuesday morning (Nov. 4, 1986) in Twin Pines Adult Care Center, Kirksville.
Born October 10, 1895 in Adair County, he was the son of Leroy and Laura Ellen Smith Douglas. On July 2, 1916 in Pure Air, he married Maudie Ester Darr who preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 1972. Also preceding him in death were his parents; two daughters, Esther Holloway in 1943 and Ilene Yowell in 1962; one grandson , Stephen Douglas in 1948; five brothers, Lester, Emery, Charley, and two in infantcy and one sister Aurilla Barnett.
Surviving are four sons, Gail, Wilford, Lavern, and Donnie, all of Kirksville; one daughter Reta Thomas of Kirksville; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, George Douglas of Brashear and three sisters, Edna Yowell and Sylvia Cooleu, both of Kirksville and Gladys Simmons of Trenton.
Mr. Douglas was a life-long resident of Adair County where he engaged in farming. In 1944 he moved to Kirksville where he was employed with Producer's Creamery until his retirement in 1962.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon (Nov. 6, 1986) in the chapel of hte Fohn Funeral Home. The Rev. Archie Cooper will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Harold Moyer, singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden". He will be accompanied by Mildred Cooper, organist. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be: Kenneth Douglas, Ronnie Douglas, Gary Yowell, Terry Brown, Frank May and Bobby Fisher.
