---Charles Barr Gregg, 88, of Kirksville, Missouri died Monday morning (January 11, 1993) at the Grim-Smith Hospital where he had been a patient since December 24, 1992. He had been in failing health for the past six years.
---Mr. Gregg was born January 11, 1905 in the Prairie Bird community, southeast of Kirksville, Missouri the son of Louis and Mary (Long) Gregg. On October 23, 1927 in Fowler, Illinois, he married Ida Florence Cunningham, who survives.
---He is also survived by two daughters Carol E. Carrara and husband Donald of East Granby, Conneticut, and Janet E. Goodwin of Kirksville, Missouri; two grandsons Robert Bruce Carrara of Ellington, Conneticut and Evan Gregg Carrara and wife Karen of Somers, Conneticut, and one step-grandson Douglas Robert Goodwin and wife Kim of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
---He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Ester Gregg, two brothers Andrew and Robert Gregg and a son-in-law Robert Lee Goodwin.
---Mr. Gregg was raised in the Prairie Bird community, where he received his early education and later graduating from the Brashear High School. He had spent most of his life on the same farm until his retirement in 1982 when he moved to Kirksville. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad part-time for a few years. He was a member of the Gibbs Christian Church at Gibbs, Missouri where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School and was a member of the Church Board for several years.
---Mr. Gregg also served as a board member for the Gibbs Cemetery Association as well as the Prairie Bird school district for many years. After moving to Kirksville, he attended the Hamilton Street Baptist Church until his health failed. He served as a Committeeman for ASCS for several years. He was also a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge of La Plata, Missouri.
---Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (January 14, 1993) at the Fohn Funeral Chapel with the Reverand Terry Hunsaker officiating. Music will be provided by Melvin Bissey singing "In Times Like These" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord" accompianed by Dianthe Cable, organist. Burial will be in the Maple Hills Cemetery, Kirksville, Missouri.
---Pallbearers will be Clarence Corrick, Bobby Moncrief, James Stribling, George Lauer, John Garlock, and Charles B. Chambers.
---Visitation will be Wednesday (January 13, 1993) with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fohn Funeral Home.
---The family requests that those who wish to express their sympathy in the form of a contribution to do so to the Hamilton Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be left at or sent to the Fohn Funeral Home.
