Louis ("Pete") Anesi, 82, 0f 215 South Florence, died at 10:15 Wednesday night (November 23, 1988) in Kirksville Manor Care Center where he had been a resident since August 8, 1988.

Born July 2, 1906, one mile south of Novinger, he was the son of Louis and Tressa Cherry Anesi. In 1941, he married Margaret Lucille Upright who preceded him in death on February 7, 1985. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, John Anesi on October 23, 1972 and Jim Anesi on May 23, 1976.

Surviving are one son, Louis Anesi of Route 3, Kirksville; one daughter, Mrs. Chris (Mary Jo) Page of Seattle, Washington; two brothers, John Anesi of 504 West Walker and Sielio Anesi of Novinger; one sister, Mary A. Fickel of 800 North Davis; one granddaughter, Janet Behrmann; three grandsons, Jerry Anesi, John Anesi and Michael McClure; one great-grandson, Kyle Behrmann and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Anesi was reared in the Novinger area. During his earlier years, he worked in the mines in that area. In 1927 he moved to Gifford where he operated a coal mine until 1928 when he moved to Kirksville and purchased a meat market. In 1932, Mr. Anesi purchased the A. G. Burk Meat Market and Processing Plant. He operated meat markets in Kirksville, LaPlata, Macon, Mexico, Moberly and Fayette and the Anesi Packing Plant, Kirksville, until his retirement in 1976.

Mr. Anesi also owned and operated a Lime and Rock Quarry west of Kirksville, which is now the site of Forest Lake. He owned and operated the Stevenson, Dockery and Travelers Hotels for a number of years. For the past several years, Mr. Anesi was engaged in farming south of Kirksville.

Mr. Anesi was elected Mayor of Kirksville in 1964 and served for two terms. During his administration he passed four general obligation bonds, brought four new plants to Kirksville and assisted in the expansion of one plant and the relocation of another plant. During this time, there was an improvement of the Kirksville Water Works and the building of a new Airport.

Mr. Anesi was a member of the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. He was director of the K.I.D.C. Board; a member of the Kirksville Housing Authority; a 50 year member of the Chamber of Commerce and past-president and six year Fair Board Member.

The body is a Davis-Playle Funeral Home where rosary will be said at eight o'clock Sunday evening (November 27, 1988).

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon (November 28, 1988) in the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church. Burial will be in Maple Hills cemetery.

Bearers will be: David Sampson, Joe Amidei, Harry Durflinger, C. L. Leeper, Shag Grossnickle and Harvey Young, Jr.

Honorary bearers will be: Ira Claybrook, Ken Read, Everett Elsea, Rowland Elsea, Jack Shelton, Red Stark, J. T. Transano and Ernest Collins.

After two o'clock Saturday (November 26, 1988) friends may call at Davis-Playle Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from seven to nine o'clock Sunday evening (November 27, 1988) in the funeral chapel.

It has been requested that, those who wish, express their sympathy in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be sent to or left at Davis-Playle Funeral Home.
