Memorial services for John Arthur Snowberger, 79, West Plains, were Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Snowberger died at 6:40 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, in Ozarks Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1930 in Skidmore, Missouri to Arthur and Alma Sarah Wygal Snowberger. On July 22, 1964, Mr. Snowberger was married at Albuquerque, NM, to Yoshiko Takita, who preceded him in death on July 16, 1990. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War being honorably discharged in 1953 with the rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Snowberger received the Korean Service Medal, three United Nations Medals and the Good Conduct Medal.
After 34 years of employment, Mr. Snowberger retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an electrical engineer. He attended the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute, receiving his accounting certification in 1990 and opening his own accounting business. Also in 1990, Mr. Snowberger worked for the U.S. Bureau of Census. He had been a member and legislative officer for the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Snowberger loved fishing, gardening, hunting and playing cards with his grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by three children, Vicki Lynn Snowberger and Donald Arthur Snowberger, both of Albuquerque, NM, and Joshi Ann Thompson of West Plains; two grandchildren, Jacqueling Ledbetter and Desiree Ledbetter; one great-grandchild, Jaidyn Girdley; brother-in-law, Dean Hagen; sister-in-law, Louise Snowberger; several nieces and nephews; cousin, George and Cynthia Null and family; and special friends Jim and Joy Bresee and family and Ann Stewart and family.
His parents; wife; one brother, William; and one sister, Virginia Hagen, precede him in death.
Burial will be in the Veterans Section, Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. (Howell County News, March 3, 2010)
