Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 6th, at the Baptist Church at Cooter, for James A. Ladd, pioneer resident of this community.
Mr. Ladd was born March 20, 1967, at Cornersville, Indiana, and passed away Monday, January 4th, at the age of 86 years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Williams of Dyersburg, Tenn. on the 8th day of September, 1896, and to this union was born six children. One child, Minnie Mae, preceeded him in death.
Mr. Ladd made his home in Cooter the greater part of his life, having lived in Pontitoc, Miss. for a few years. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church there for 50 years, and was a consecrated Christian. He spent many hours reading his Bible. However, he had not been active in church work for some time, due to ill health.
Those left fo mourn his passing are: three sons, Herman Ladd of Memphis, George Ladd of Cooter and Charlie Ladd of Pontitoc, Miss.; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Fitts of Memphis, Tenn. and Mrs. Leland Owens of Pontitoc, Miss.; 16 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Rev. W.E. Hall, pastor of the Cooter Baptist Church officiated at funeral services and interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. German Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
