George C. Hicks, 71, died Thursday, November 25, 1999, at St. Frances Hospital in Memphis. He was born July 12, 1928, in Holland, the son of the late Anderson and Lavence Harris Hicks.
Hicks was last employed as superintedent of the Water Department for the City of Holland. At Blytheville, Ark., on August 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Frances Lou Burton, who survives him.
Hicks was a member of the Baptist Church in Holland. One brother, Charles Hicks, one sister, Dorothy Cope, and one granddaughter, Amy Suzanne Hicks, preceeded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Lou Hicks of Holland; one daughter, Betty Louise Frazier of Holland; two sons, George Anderson Hicks of Memphis and Dennis Keith Hicks of Holland; two grandsons, Kirk Anderson Hicks of Jonesboro, Ark., Craig Allen Hicks of Memphis; one step-grandson, Zackery; one brother, Robert Hicks of Detroit; four sisters, Mary Sutton of Kennett, Odie Mae Crim of Salem, Mo., Phyllis Emery and Sharon Ralph, both of St. Louis; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
Services were held Sunday, November 28, 1999, 2 p.m., at the Baptist Church in Holland, with Rev. John Earl Dunavant officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele.
