AURORA -- Funeral services for Byron Brooks Ham, 86, owner of a grocery and general merchadise store at Verona for 60 years were at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in Peterson Chapel, Aurora, with Dr. Robert M.C. Ward officiating. Burial was in Spring River Cemetery, Verona.
Mr. Ham died at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Winton, Carthage, after a brief illness. His store, B. B. Ham's Meats , Notions, Frozen Foods, closed in August, 1970, after 60 years' operation. In an interview at his retirement, Mr. Ham noted that he had worked from 7 to 7 every day for six decades and said, "You've got to like it when you do things like that."
Mr. Ham, a former member of the Lawrence County Welfare Board, was a member of Verona Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Surviving in addition to his daughter, are a son, Brooks, of Monett; a sister, Mrs. Nova Pinkston, Oklahoma City; a grandson and a great-grandchild.
