James Ray Pruitt, 57, of Steele passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in Boise, Idaho. He was born Jan. 20, 1959, in Hornersville, Mo., to the late James Allen Pruitt and Ethel Mae Jackson Pruitt. Trucking was his life, he started driving at the age of 13 for his Uncle "Pluto" Smith. He later drove for McClure Trucking, Utley Trucking and Tennessee Steel Haulers, and he even drove for himself at one point. He quit trucking and worked for his brother-in-law, Len, doing carpentry work for a short time. He decided that wasn't for him (he didn't know why Len wanted everything measured so perfectly) and went back to trucking. He passed away doing what he loved most, driving a truck. At the time of his death, he was driving for Golden Farms.
Mr. Pruitt was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Pruitt and Ethel Mae Jackson Pruitt, and one brother, Lee Allen Pruitt.
Survivors of Mr. Pruitt include two daughters, Raven Glidewell and LaDon of Steele and Shelby Busby and Brandon of Franklin, Ohio; one step-daughter, Nikole Buergin of Caruthersville, three sisters, Shirley Welsh and Len of Caruthersville, Christy Reed and Skeet of Munsford, Tenn., and Sandra Pruett of Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Draven Glidewell, Chris Connell, Adryen Crawford, Brandon Busby Jr., Sarah Busby, Klee Busby, Bentley Busby, Kately Buergin and Kolton Davis; one nephew, Lenny Welsh and Michelle of Dyersburg, Tenn., and nieces and nephews, Summer, Sky, Joseph, Shawn, Jessica, April, Heather, Roger, Nikki, Steven and Penny, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Pruitt were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 6 at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Lee officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 5. Pallbearers were LaDon Glidewell, Draven Glidewell, Allen McArthur, Allen Pierce, Keith Warren and Roger Blagg. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Golden, Lenny Welsh, Jeff Rhodes and Larry Cook.
Powell Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
