Newton County News, February 28, 1907 - Died of pneumonia fever, at his home three miles east of Newtonia, in February 13, 1907, James Henry Ratliff, age 17 yrs. 11 mo and 15 days. The deceased was a son of the late Job Ratliff. His mother Bertha Ratliff survives him also two sisters and four brothers. Jim as he was known by his friends, was an excellent boy who never had an enemy and who had a host of friends; always obedient to his parents and a kind loving brother to his sisters and brothers. His father preceded him to the spirit land just nine days before. He died of the same fever. One great consolation to the heart broken mother is that her boy was prepared to meet his Saviour and his dear father. Just a little while before his death he said, “Jesus has saved me and he has come for me,” and we feel that his goodbye to his father was only for a short time and was followed by a happy reunion in Heaven. Jesus alone can comfort the sorrowing family and may his tender love and sympathy make smoother life’s pathway for them until they shall all meet again in the land where troubles are never known.
