He was a son of John and Elizabeth (Abramovitz) Staponski. He was a lifelong area resident. He had been a member of the Missouri National Guard, retired in 1986 as a sample cutter at Jumping-Jacks Shoes in Monett, and was a Catholic. He married Helen (Hilburn) Gastorf on January 10, 1975, in Mt. Vernon, MO. He was preceded in death by one step-son, Larry Gastorf; and three brothers, Steve Staponski, Lawrence Staponski, and Joey Staponski.
