G.L. HAMMOND, 77 YEARS OLD, DIES IN IOWA

Was In Veteran's Hospital; Funeral Here On Saturday

George L. Hammond, of 1301 N. Franklin, died in the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines at 6:25 o'clock yesterday evening. Mr. Hammond, who was 77 years of age, had been a patient in the hospital during the past week.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon in the funeral chapel of Davis & Davis with the Rev. Marvin Fortel officiating.

Mr. Hammond was born Oct. 22, 1884 in Richland county, Wis., the son of William G. and Martha (Alaback) Hammond. On Oct. 5, 1930 at Waukegan, Ill., he was married to Verna Dailey who survives him.

Also surviving are one daughter, Florence Marie Hammond, of Mason City, Ia., and a brother, John C. Hammond, of Granton, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. The Hammonds moved to Kirksville in 1961 from Nora Springs, Ia. Previously they had resided in Milan and Mansfield, Mo. For many years, Mr. Hammond was engaged as a carpenter at Ft. Sheridan, Ill. He retired in 1947. A veteran of World War I, he was also a member of American Legion, VFW, IOOF and the Methodist church.
