ANDREW J. WILHITE JR—JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, IS DEAD

Succumbed Saturday after being bedfast seven months.

Andrew J. Wilhite Jr. Justice of the peace of Benton Township, and city official in a number of capacities throughout his lifetime here, died at his home, 802 East Patterson Street, Saturday morning at 4:20 following a long illness with tuberculosis. He had been bedfast for the last seven months, Judge Wilhite was 62 years old.

Funeral services are to be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the Davis & Wilson Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. C.A. Finch, pastor of the Christian Church. The family has requested that friends refrain from sending flowers as it was the deceased man's wishes that no such tribute be paid him. The body is now at the funeral home and will be there for friends to view until time for the funeral. Burial will be made in the Highland Park Cemetery.

Mr. Wilhite was born December 5, 1867 in Sullivan County, but came to Kirksville about 40 years ago. He was son of A.J. and Cordelia Broyles Wilhite. His marriage to Miss Alma Smith, of Milan, occurred July 23, 1907 and five children were born to them, the daughter dying in infancy. Mrs. Wilhite and four sons, Ashley, of Chicago and Donavan, Cedric and Roy, at home survive. There is also a sister, Mrs. R.H. Price, of West Plains, MO.

Judge Wilhite at one time operated a print shop here and had served as city clerk, city collector, police judge, and Justice of the Peace. He was appointed to the office he held at the time of his death, two years ago following the death of W.A. Downing, against whom he competed in the city election.
