DIED
Ira Elliott an old respectable citizen of Adair Co., died on the 2nd inst., near Leon, Butler Co., Kansas. His son Charles was with him at his death and brought the remains home for interment. The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church at Brashear by Rev. F.M. Green. The burial services were conducted by Paulville Lodge of the Masonic fraternity of which he was an honored member.

OBITUARY
IRA ELLIOTT was born in Portage Co., Ohio, Aug., 10th, 1837, and died near Leon Butler county, Kansas, Dec., 2nd, 1882. He removed with his father's family to Iowa in 1855 and two years later came to Adair Co., Mo., where he has since made his home. He became associated early in life with the M.E. Church, of which he continued a worthy member until his death. For the past several years his health has been so shattered as to unfit him for the labors and responsibilities of husbandry his chosen vocation.
He made frequent trips to Kansas and Nebraska for the benefit of his health, and at times seemed much improved. After his protracted sickness in Kirksville last summer and fall he concluded to transfer his business to Kansas and make that state for the greater part of his time his home. He was accompanied by his son Charles, but had not been there a great while until he was stricken down and after a brief illness departed this life on Saturday night. Dec. 2nd. His remains were brought back to Adair county, for interment and were laid to rest in the cemetery two miles northeast of Brashear.
Bro. Elliott was a good man, a kind husband and father. As a man he was possessed of some most excellent traits of character. He was largely gifted with charity for the failings of his fellows and was possssed [sic] of a bright and cheerful disposition. It seemed that he always looked upon the bright side of life, and had the happy faculty of imparting cheerfulness to those with whom he came in contact[.] His funeral service was conducted by the writer at the Methodist church in Brashear, and his burial service was performed by Paulville Lodge of the Masonic Fraternity of which he was an honored member.
