Archie Allen Chaney, a longtime resident of Willow Springs, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2020 while at Willow Care Nursing Home. Archie was born on Christmas Day, 1935 in Cabool, MO to Robert Samuel and Mary Catherine (Smith) Chaney. He was 84 years old.
Archie attended high school in Willow Springs, graduating with the Class of 1953. He was a member of the 1953 State Championship football team in the Ozark Bowl. After high school, Archie enlisted and served four years in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. When he completed serving in the military, he became a cement finisher and worked in this capacity for 40 years in road construction. In 1958, Archie married the love of his life, Ellaine Gilbert, and they remained married for 62 years. Together they had six adoring children. Archie enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, cutting wood, and playing cards. He was a Christian and longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Willow Springs. He will be greatly missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew him.
Archie is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Chaney; and siblings: Robert Chaney, Jr. and James Chaney.
He is survived by his wife, Ellaine; children: Mike, Jim, Joe, Mary, Susan, and Steve; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Archie’s memory be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church and may be left at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Scott Chamberlain officiating.
