M. Columbus Garner, 72, 1314 Fairmont St., Neosho, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Medical Center, Joplin, where he was admitted three hours earlier after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.
Born Oct. 30, 1899, in Newton County, Mr.Garner moved to Neosho in 1966 from Carthage. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Carthage Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Senior Citizens Club, both Neosho, and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple, Springfield.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eula Garner; a son Hal G. Garner, Newark, Del.; a daughter Mrs. Virginia Gilchrist, Springfield; a stepson, Charles E. Troy, Denver, Colo.; a brother, Cleo Garner, Neosho a sister Mrs. Pearl Manz, Neosho; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. today at Clark Funeral Home. The Rev. George Kingore officiated. Burial was in Neosho IOOF Cemetery with Masonic rites by the Carthage Masonic Lodge.
Pallbearers were Willard Scroggs, Basil Hill, Carl Engelbrecht, Eddie Hunter, Bud Wolfgang and Roy L Roper.
Members of the Senior Citizens Club and the Order of the Eastern Star attended in a group.
