LOWELL, Kan. — J. Parker Craig, 74, prominent area minister, died at 8:31 a.m. Wednesday at a Lowell nursing home after several months of ill health.

Mr. Craig was born Jan. 19, 1909, at Spurgeon, Mo. He moved to Lowell in 1921. He had pastored Nazarene Churches at Granby, Trenton and Webb City, Mo. He was pastor of Friends Churches in Modoc, Okla., Stark, Kan., and the Tennessee Prairie Church, south of Galena.

He served as associated pastor for the Lowell Friends Church until becoming ill. He was a member of Lowell Friends Church and Riverton-Lowell Lions Club. He and his wife were active in organizing the Half Century Club of Galena. He served as a state mine inspector from 1965 to 1974.

He married Mary E. Bowman on May 11, 1926, at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Also surviving are five daughters, Peggy Overholt, Spring Lake, Mich., Polly Johnson, Trenton, Judy Miller, Sterling, Va., and Janet Rutledge and Connie Richey, both of Riverton; a brother, Malcolm Craig, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Lorene Todd, Overland Park, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lowell Friends Church. The Rev. Don Daniels and the Rev. Casey Davidson will officiate. Burial will be in Thresher Cemetery, Spurgeon.

Pallbearers will be Jim Overholt, David Johnson, Drew Miller, Darren Miller, Vincent Rutledge, Craig Richey, Scott Rutledge and Randall Crawford.

Members of Riverton-Lowell Lion’s Club will be seated as a group.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.
