Carthage, Mo., Aug. 20 --- Benjamin Earl Friend, 29 years old, shot and fatally wounded himself with a single-shot, 22, caliber rifle of German make at his home in Goodwin at 2:30 o'clock, this afternoon, Trooper T. Bay reported to the Troop D of headquarters here tonight.
The wound entered Friend's head two inches back of the right eye, Bay said. The wound was surrounded by powder burns.
An inquiry into the death was made by Bay and Deputy Sherriff Clarence Moser of McDonald County, the latter acting in capacity of sherriff. Moser announced that an inquest would not be held.
Friend is said to have left a note to his estranged wife, who, with their two children, lives at Anderson with Mrs. Friend's parents. The contents of the note, however, was not reported by Bay.
Friend is also survived by two brothers and two sisters.
