With his brother Frank. they formed the most famous outlaw brothers in the old west. After the war, they joined up with the Younger brothers to form the most famous gang of bank and train robbers. They were very successful until February 13, 1866 when they robbed the first National Bank of Northfield, Minnesota. The robbery was successful but the getaway was a disaster. During the getaway two of the gang, Clell Miller and Bill Chadwell, were killed, two citizens were killed and one wounded. Most of the Youngers were wounded but they managed to get away. The James brothers made a clean getaway, but they split up from the Youngers and the largest manhunt in history was underway.
On April 3, 1882, Charley and Bob Ford, the only trusted friends that Jesse had left assassinated him. Charlie pulled the trigger while Bob looked on.
