Through his mother, David King was the great grandson of General John Sevier, first Governor of Tennessee, and his first wife, Sarah Hawkins Sevier.

Elizabeth Conway Sevier was the daughter of Major John Sevier and his third wife, Sofia Garoutte. Sophia Garoutte Sevier was the daughter of Michael Antoine Garoutte and Sophia Smith Garoutte.

She married Charles Potter Byers on April 3, 1831. He was the son of David Byers and Sophia Potter and the grandson of James Byers, DAR Ancestor Number A017900. Per family information, Charles Byers relocated from Massachusetts to Jonesborough, Tennessee when he became Editor of The Vindicator. It was in Jonesborough that he met his future wife.

Charles and Elizabeth Sevier Byers had six children:

James Byers
Henry C. Byers
David King Byers
Mary Louise Byers

After the death of Elizabeth Byers in 1845, Charles Byers married Emeline Cox. The children of that union were:

Florence P Byers
Alice Byers
Cyrus Adams Byers
Ida Byers

David Byers was living with his father, stepmother, and siblings in 1850. He was listed on the 1850 Census as a student. On October 31, 1866, he married Rosa Gertrude Du Plant, the daughter of Oswald Du Plant. The Byers couple had at least one child: a son, Embree Archibald Byers.
