Orphaned when his parents died in 1805/1806 at the age of 7, one of 8 siblings,he became the apprentice of John Jacoby, a famed saddle maker. Grimsley later invented The Dragoon Saddle. He sold large amounts of tack to the fur companies and the US Government. He also was key in the advancement of the railroads and was an Alderman, Representative and Senator
