Callaway County, Missouri was named after Capt. Callaway. This memorial stands in front of the Callaway County Courthouse
Callaway Killed by Indians: The Rangers were dispatched from Ft Clemson to pursue a band of Sac-and-Fox Indians (Sauk and Meskwaki Native Americans) who has stolen horses. Once they recovered the horses, the Rangers were ambushed by another party of Indians while crossing Loutre Creek. Also killed were Frank McDermid, Parks Hutchins and James McMillin, who are also buried near where they were killed.
