Lewis Collins, 46, was killed instantly this (Thrusday) morning at 1:29 o'clock by the northbound Frisco passenger train near the Steele crossing. At present no witnesses to the tragedy have been found and it is assumed that Mr. Collins was walking down the track or was crossing it.
Train crew men stopped the train at the crossing and after investigation found the body lodged under the front of the train.
Mr. Collins was born November 28, 1899 in Monroe county, Tenn., but had farmed for 20 years in Steele. He had moved to Holland this year where he was working.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Freddie Collins and three children, Clyde, Kenneth Wade and John W. Collins; five brothers, Fred and Clint of Tennessee, Frank and Arthur of Steele and Clyde Collins, also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jones and Mrs. Elizabeth May of Dyersburg, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at German Undertaking chapel in Steele.
