Funeral services for John Henry Shannon Sr., 74, of West Plains, Mo., were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007. in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr. Shannon died 12:55 p.m., Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at his home. He was born July 7, 1933, in Sturkie, Ark. to Luther and Hallie Witt Shannon. On Sept. 14, 1957, he was married at Sturkie, Ark., to Anna Mae Johnston. Mr. Shannon was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army and had been employed by the city of West Plains and Southwest Truck Body. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Shannon, of the family home; five children, John Henry Shannon, Jr., and wife Donna of Peace Valley, Mo., Janice Rice and husband Mike of Colorado Springs, Co., Brenda Warren and husband Doug of West Plains, Mo., Cheryl Smith and husband Rodney of Versallies, Mo., Laura Hatten and husband Jimmy of West Plains, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Shannon and wife Ruth of West Plains and Douglas Shannon and special friend Peggy of Winona, Mo., six sisters, Sybil Stanley, Kathleen Wheeler and husband John, Virginia Sue Bell and husband Leroy, all of Hutchinson, Kan., Bertha Elliott, Linda Fox and husband Riley of West Plains and Sandra Newnam and husband Carroll of Washington, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Shannon of Wichita, Kan., Naomi Shannon, and Mary Barks and husband Melvin of West Plains; brother-in-law, Steve Johnston and wife Tammy of West Plains; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers, two sisters, father-in-law and mother-in-law, precede him in death. Visitation was from 6 until 7 p.m., Wednesday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial was at Homeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shaw Medical Building and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
