Guy Harness, 87, son of Samuel Noah and Melissa Belle Cross Harness, was born Jan. 5, 1912, in Clark County. He died Nov. 30, 1999, at Four Seasons Health Care at Fort Collins, CO, following a long illness.
Mr. Harness grew up in Clark County and was a veteran of WW II, entered the U.S. Navy Sept. 10, 1942. He was medically discharged May 4, 1943.
After his discharge, he returned to Missouri where he farmed.
He moved to Fort Collins, CO in 1952, where he was in the fur-trapping business. He returned to Missouri in 1962, where he farmed until retiring 10 years ago.
Music was a big part of his life.
He was an accomplished fiddler, specializing in bluegrass-style fiddling; and was a past national champion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Rosalie Stiner.
Surviving are eight sons, Tim Harness of Mansfield; Josh and John Harness of Mountain Grove; Sam, Henry and Robert Harness of Fort Collins, CO; Richard Harness of Fulton and Guy Harness, Jr. of Kansas City; five daughters, Karen Kinserlow of Houston; Terri Harness of Theodosia; Cindy Harness of Fort Collins, CO; Evelyn Sausage of Memphis, TN; and Irene Huntley of Kerrville, TX; 35 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 4 at the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Chapel with the Rev. Gary Fry officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Howell Valley Cemetery near
West Plains.
