Delbert Lee Coatney, 77, son of Evan Coatney and Faye Presser Coatney, was born Aug. 4, 1924, in the Varvel community in Texas County. He died Oct. 15, 2001, at Ozarks Medical Center.
He entered the U.S. Navy May 26, 1944, and received his honorable discharge May 2, 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre, where he was a machinist mate third class, Sea Bees.
After returning home, he married Mary Joy Bennett, who died in 1998.
For many years, he was involved in timber and logging work. Several years ago, he moved to Flippin, Ark., where he could fish and enjoy the lake area.
Due to failing health, he recently became a resident of Willow Care.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister.
Surviving are six children, Rex Coatney of Bolivar, Donna Roberts of Willow Springs, Harold Coatney of Flippin, Ark., Janie Gibbons of Pomona, Jim Coatney of Raymore and David Coatney of Norwood; three sisters, Marie Pippee, Lela Riley and Linda Young of Mountain Grove; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 18 at the Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home Chapel in Cabool with the Rev. David Lovan officiating. Burial was in the Freedom Cemetery.
