DEATH OF W. M. HANCOCK
FORMER CARTHAGE MAN DIES AT CENTER POINT, TEXAS

Succumbs in Ailments Which Followed Being Gassed During World War

W. M. Hancock, Carthage ex-service man, veteran of the world war and also of the Mexican border difficulty, died early this morning in a government hospital at Center Point, Texas where he had been for six months. Death was due to ailments which followed being gassed overseas.
Mr. Hancock was 33 years old. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Hancock of Prospect Avenue. Carthage had been nominally his home for the last 16 years. He went to Texas from Carthage last October. He was born in Benton county, Arkansas January 9, 1891. He was a member of the regular army when the Mexican trouble developed and later served overseas in the world war as a sergeant with the Fifth Engineers.
Surviving Mr. Hancock are his wife, who before her marriage was a Texas girl, his parents, two sisters and a brother. The sisters are Mrs. Ella Upton of Oklahoma and Mrs. Ada McCowan of Carthage. The brother, David Hancock is in the U. S. Navy. He has been notified and it is thought will be able to come home to attend funeral.
The body will be brought to Carthage and will be accompanied by his wife. Mrs. Hancock and the casket are expected to reach Carthage Wednesday morning.
The body will be in charge of the Ulmer-Drake funeral directors. Arrangements are being made for a military funeral.
