Avon Byrd Parmenter, 77, son of Fern and William Parmenter, was born Sept. 30, 1926, at Solo. He died May 31, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
He attended Tyrone School and Cabool High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army overseas.
In 1987, he retired from Caterpillar Inc. after 25 years.
He married Linda Flanigan in 1954. They had two children.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Parmenter.
Surviving are his wife of the home at Cabool; daughters, Connie and Kimmie Parmenter of Peoria, Ill., and Chillicothe, Ill.; brothers, Lee Parmenter of Gray Summit and Billy of Wentzville; sisters, Irene Maness and Patty Hamilton.
Graveside services were June 3 at the New Hope Cemetery at Solo with the Rev. Orval Gayer officiating under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home of Cabool.
