Mass funeral services were held at the Denton Assembly of God Church Wednesday afternoon for Glenn Allen Williams, 26, and wife, Velda Iona Williams, 16, and Winford Douglas, 26, and wife, Maydole Douglas, 24, all victims of an automobile accident which occurred about 4:15 Saturday morning near Kalamazoo, Mich. Funeral services for a fifth victim, Leo Douglas, brother of Winford, will be held Saturday at Battle Creek, Mich.
A truck, plowing through the automobile that swerved broadside in its path on a fog-blanketed highway, killed all but Mrs. Douglas instantly. She lived about 20 minutes but never regained consciousness.
The crash occurred at a "V" intersection when the driver apparently became confused and took the wrong road, officers said.
Ralph Eichholz, 36, Battle Creek, driving an empty truck and trailer westbound for Gary, Ind., told officers the driver then attempted to cut back suddenly and swerved into the truck's path. Eichholz was unhurt.
All victims were former residents of Steele and vicinity and all but Leo Douglas were planning to leave Battle Creek Friday and go to Rockford, Ill., where they had obtained living quarters and employment.
Mr. Williams and Mrs. Douglas, his sister, are survived by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Williams of Denton, four brothers, Aaron, Billy and Preston Williams of Denton, and Willie Williams of Steele. Also two sisters, Etoyle and Lorene Williams of Denton; Mrs. Douglas is survived by a son, Jerry Wayne.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Weaver of Denton, and five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cunningham, Steele, Mrs. Emily Loveless, Bragg City, Mrs. Hazel Ridge, Steele, Mrs. Dorris Ridge, Steele, Mrs. Jewell Austill, Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Dora White of Braggadocio.
