Phillip Washington Stice, the son of Phillip Stice and Rebecca Dicus or Dycus of Edmonson County, Kentucky, was born there on October 16, 1832. On March 25, 1853 he married Schrilda Cockrell, daughter of James Cockriel and Lucinda Sirles, in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. Her older sister Harriet married his older brother Lewis Franklin Stice. On the 1860 Census, Phillip was listed as a farmer in Preston Township, Platte County, Missouri with his wife Schrilda, sons James and Phillip, and daughter Sarah. Phillip Washington Stice, also known as P. W. Stice, was enrolled on May 13, 1863 at Weston, Missouri as a Private in Company C of the 3rd Provincial Regiment. He was ordered into active service on that date by General W. P. Hall and was relieved from duty four and a half months later on September 29, 1863 by Col. Williams. On the 1870 Census, he was listed as a farmer in Weston, Platte County, Missouri with his wife Schrilda, sons James, Phillip, George, William, and Jonathan, and daughters Sarah and Rebecca. On the 1880 Census, he was listed as a farmer in Delaware Township, Jefferson County, Kansas with his wife Schrilda, sons James, George, Ellis, and Franklin, and daughters Sarah, Rebecca, Lucinda, and Martha. On the 1900 Census, he was listed as a laborer in Spring Creek Precinct, Klickitat County, Washington. They were the parents of 11 children. Schrilda lived her later years in the home of her daughter Martha Stice Yates. She died December 17, 1922 in Texas County, Missouri and was buried along side her husband in the New Hope Cemetery just south of Houston, Missouri. Also buried with them was their sixteen-year old son Jonathan Ellis Stice, who was born March 1, 1868 and died May 1, 1884. Schrilda's obituary shows she was survived by six children: James Stice living in Canada, Mrs. Sarah Mundy of Kansas City, George Stice of Washington, Frank Stice of Oklahoma, Martha Yates of Houston, (Texas County, MO), and Lucinda Stice of Nevada. Frank Stice was William Franklin Stice and was the grandfather of Janice Stice Bush, who provided the information on Schrilda Cockrell and Phillip Washington Stice and their children.

Schrilda A. Cockriel was the third daughter of James and Lucinda (Sirles) Cockriel. Early Grayson County, Kentucky records show her name spelled as Sarilda and Serilda. She was born September 27, 1834 in Grayson County. Schrilda Cockrell and Phillip Washington Stice were married March 25, 1853 in Leitchfield, Grayson County, Kentucky. Her older sister Harriet married his older brother Lewis Franklin Stice. Phillip Washington Stice, also known as P. W.
