CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES: END COMES UNEXPECTEDLY TO F. A. WOODFORD, 87

CARTHAGE MAN PASSES AWAY SOON AFTER REACHING NATIONAL MILITARY HOME
WIFE NEAR DEATH

Francis Allison Woodford, 87 years old, former Carthage resident, died suddenly last night at the National Military Home in Leavenworth, Kansas where he was taken Wednesday by his son, G. W. Woodford of Carthage. Mr. Woodford had been in failing health the last five years. He was able to be up and around and was apparently feeling as well as usual yesterday morning when the son left him to return to Carthage. Mr. Woodford was born December 19, 1841 in Washington county, Ohio. He came to Carthage in 1891 and lived here until two years ago when he moved to Joplin. He was a member of the G.A.R. having served in the Third Iowa Calvary during the Civil War. He was in the service 25 months. He was a member of the Christian church.
His wife, Mrs. Mary Woodford, who is critically ill from pneumonia at the home of her son, O. F. Woodford, in Joplin, has not been told of the death of Mr. Woodford on account of her condition. She is nearing her 87th birthday anniversary. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Woodford, two of whom survive him. They are:
G. W. Woodford of Carthage and O. F. Woodford of Joplin.
One brother; Hiram Woodford of Colorado and eight grandchildren; Frederick Woodford and Mrs. Isabel Woodford Taylor both of Carthage Helen Woodford of Joplin
Mrs. Florence Woodford Trowbridge of Springfield, MO
Mrs. J. L. Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma Miss Josephine Grissom of Oklahoma Marvin Grissom of Columbia, MO and
Gerald Grissom of Nebraska also survive.
