Brother of One of Our Esteemed citizens Looses Life While in Preperation for His country's Defense.
Stephen Ballard Rybolt was born in Worth County, Missouri, Dec. 2, 1873, and departed this life at Camp Dodge, Iowa, Jan. 10, 1918, aged 44 years, one month and eight days.
He leaves to mourn his loss, three sisters and five brothers, as follows:
Mary J. Anderson, of Wessington, S.D.; Delila A. Spurgeon, of Grant City, Mo.; Mrs. W. H. Clark, of Blockton, Iowa; John W. Rybolt, of Fairbury, Neb.; Joseph Rybolt, of Rosebud, Mont.; Hezekiah Rybolt, of Beatrice, Neb.; Sherman Rybolt, of Grant City, Mo.; Willis Rybolt, of Grant City, Mo. Besides these, he leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
He united with the Christian church at Pleasant Ridge, Mo., under the pastorate of Miss Kate Weaver. Later he transferred his membership to the Isadora, Mo Christian church at its organization. Then on going to Demoines, Iowa, to attend school he united with the Christian church there.
For a number of years he was a successful teacher in the public schools of Worth County, Mo, having graduated from the Stanberry Missouri Normal School both in the teacher's and commercial courses. He later graduated from the St. Louis University Medical School, of St. Louis, Mo., after which he practiced his profession at Trey Mills, Iowa, until last June, when he enlisted in the service of his country and was given rank as first lieutenant in the 351 Iowa Regiment.
The funeral services were conducted from the Isadora, Mo. church of Christ Jan. 14, 1918, by pastor of the church, Charlie E. Grahm, assisted by Rev. Laird, pastor of the M.E. church of Blockton, Iowa, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Isadora cemetery. The pall-bearers were Doctors Phipps, Mills, Andrews, McKinley and Ross of Grant City, Mo. and Doctor Miller, of Blockton, Iowa. A large concourse of people were present to pay their tribute of respect to this Worth County boy who gave his life for his country, and who was formerly onoe of the County's most highly respected citizens.
The funeral discourse was preached from 2 Timothy 4:6-8. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of a host of friends. May they put their trust in the God of Heaven and walk with Him to the tearless land of immortality where there is no more sorrow.
Mrs. Mary J. Anderson returned Monday from an extended visit with relatives in Iowa and Missouri. She was called back there early in the winter because of the serious illness of her younget brother who had been brought home from the military training camp where he was fitting himself to be a leader among the defenders of this nation. His condition was so much improved early in January that Mrs. Anderson started home, but had proceeded but a short distance when she was called back to his bedside where she remained until he passed away. Mr. Rybot, the deceased brother, was a man of considerable note. He had been a visitor here and had met a good many of our people and we had intended to publish an obituary, but the paper sent by Mrs. Anderson was in some way mislaid and it was not until her return that we were able to get another.
