Funeral services for Coy Gene Johnson were held Thursday afternoon, May 24, 1962 at 2 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery at Steele with the H.S. Smith Funeral Home in charge of services.
Mr. Johnson, the son of Eugene and Christine Johnson, was born September 1, 1931 and died May 22, 1962 at the age of 30, at his home, Route 1, Caruthersville. He attended schools in Alabama.
On January 22, 1949, at Gadsden, Ala., he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving till January 11, 1952. He then received an honorable discharge at Ft. Knox, Ky. He later re-enlisted, serving three more years and receiving an honorable discharge April 7, 1956.
Six years ago, he came to Caruthersville to make his home with his parents, where he engaged in farming.
He is survived by three brothers, Crawford Johnson, G.W. Johnson and Ethyle Johnson, all of Route 1, Caruthersville and four sisters: Mrs. Josephine Givens, Hanceville, Ala., Mrs. Racine Givens, Cullman, Ala., Mrs. Harold Riggs, Birmingham, Ala., and Miss Fonda Johnson, Route 1, Caruthersville.
