Terry T. Threadgill, 23, drowned in the Mississippi River Sunday about 11:45 a.m. about a half mile south of the Bunge Corporation near Huffman.
Officials said that the drowning victim, his wife, Cathy Threadgill of Steele, and a friend Jimmy Anderson of Holland, were in the water with an inflated rubber air mattress. None of the three could swim. Reports were that Threadgill stepped in a hole, lost his grip on the raft, and could not be reached by the others. Mrs. Threadgill was pushed to safety.
Dragging operations began just after noon Sunday and continued until dark, resuming Monday. The body was found late Monday afternoon. The Emergency Squad of Mississippi County, Ark., and the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department members conducted the search for the body.
Mr. Threadgill was employed by the City of Steele in the Water and Sanitation Department.
The son of Eugene and Shirley Threadgill, he was born November 28, 1952 in Holland.
He was married on November 13, 1975 to Cathy Thurman Threadgill, who survives, as do his parents and a grandmother, Grace Threadgill of Big Springs, Texas. He also leaves two brothers, Michael and Ronald Threadgill of Steele and four sisters: Sharon, Deborah, Linda and Karon Threadgill, all of Steele.
Services were to have been Wednesday, July 21 1976 at 4 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Steele with the Rev. Fred Albright and the Rev. Roy Handley officiating.
Burial was to be in Mount Zion Cemetery, Steele, and the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Johnny Thurmond, Donald Thurmond, Cecil Hedge, Jack Gray, Jim Anderson and Hubert Morris.
