Jean Rose Hardy was born September 4, 1929 at Bellwood, Illinois, the daughter of the late Aaron and Laura Chaney Hardy. Her departure from this life came on November 3, 1978, at age 49 years, one month and 29 days, following a long illness.
At a young age her family moved to Cabool, where she attended school, graduating with the class of 1947. On August 17, 1949 she was united in marriage to Elmer Ellis and to this happy union four daughters were born.
About 20 years ago she professed her faith in the Lord and united with the Frist Free Will Baptist Church where her membership has remained. She was a wonderful Christian lady who always had a radiant smile and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Besides her parents she has been preceded in death by a brother, three sisters and a grandson.
Surviving are her husband, Elmer; daughters, Diane Peabody, Pam McClenahan, Nancy Ellis and Judy Ellis, all of Cabool; five brothers, Charles Hardy and Vernon Hardy, both of Springfield, Tom Hardy, Concord, California, Louis Hardy, North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Edwin Hardy, Cabool; two sisters; Dorothy Johnson, Atascadero, California, and Shirley Churchwell, Springfield; a grandson Boone Peabody and a host of other relatives many friends and neighbors.
Services were 2 p.m. Monday, November 6, in First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Altis officiating. Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry. [Cabool Enterprise, Nov, 1978]
