Orval Ray Garritson, 73, son of Roy Garritson and Vera Flood Carr, was born Jan. 22, 1935, at Pocatello, Idaho. He died July 26, 2008, at his home at Cabool.
He grew up and attended school in Pocatello, Idaho, and married H. Ellen Savage June 7, 1963, in Burbank, Calif. They had three children and lived in Ventura, Calif.
The Garritsons moved in the early '70s to Cabool.
Mr. Garritson served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He was a roughneck for Mobil Oil Co. until he was disabled in an oil field explosion.
He was known for his big Easter egg hunts for kids and adults. His home was always open for everyone, and he loved every minute with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sept. 23, 1993; a brother, Gene Garritson; sister, Carol Vandiver; and an infant granddaughter.
Surviving are his son, Shawn Garritson of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters, Christy Phinnell of Grand Junction, Colo., Kimberly Garritson of Kirkwood, Shannon Maxvill of Cabool; stepdaughter, Christy Mattoon of Colorado; and Sherry Faulkner of California, who he raised as a daughter; three brothers, Dale Garritson of Oceanside, Calif., Richard Lloyd of Florida and Leland Lloyd of Arkansas; two sisters, Vicky Cochran of Willow Springs and Nancy Goans of Doniphan; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were July 31 at the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home Chapel with Calvin Bateman and Jake Vonallmen officiating. Burial was in the Cabool Cemetery. [Houston Herald, Aug 7, 2008]
