Mary Edna Hasty, 100 of Cabool, MO passed away on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool, MO. She was born on March 9, 1910 in Elk Creek, MO the daughter of James G. and Blanche (Martin) Hasty.
Edna graduated from Cabool High School in 1927. She worked for Producers Creamery in Cabool until 1934 and then moved to Kansas City, MO to work for Sears & Roebuck. In January 1941, she moved to Los Angeles, CA and took an administrative position with Bohemian Distributing Company.
In January 1943, she joined the Women’s Army Corps (WACS), serving 8 months in the US and 18 months in the European African Middle Eastern Theatre. Ms. Hasty was honorably discharged at Camp Beale, CA on December 5, 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant. She returned to her job at Bohemian where she remained until retirement.
Ms. Hasty returned to Cabool, MO in May 2000, to spend her remaining years near family and where she was raised. She was proud of the opportunity to serve her country and honored to serve her Lord, as a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Ms. Hasty was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Hasty of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Derrell Hasty of Everett, WA, Albert Thomas Hasty of Bartlesville, OK and Merle Hasty of Sacramento, CA; and a sister, Carol (Hasty) Reaves of Cabool, MO. She is survived by four nieces, Nancy (Hasty) Lux of Gladstone, MO, Mary Ann (Hasty) Johnson of Parkville, MO, Debbie (Reaves) Miller of Savannah, TN and Jill (Reaves) Sanders of Springfield, MO; one nephew, James B. Hasty of Lake Forest, CA; five great nieces, two great nephews, six great-great nieces, five great-great nephews, one great-great-great niece and three great-great-great nephews.
