Bessie Ann Adams was born near Manes, MO January 29, 1898, the daughter of Charles Franklin & Mary Ann (Butts) Adams. She died March 29, 1989 in Springfield Community Hospital at the age of 91 years, two months.

She was married to the late Rev. Archie Hogue on September 7, 1913 and to this union six children were born. A son, Lawrence Hogue, preceded them in death and Archie died in 1975. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage. They lived most of their lives in the Cabool area and she assisted Archie many times and ways in his ministry. Over the years they sang at numerous services and were truly laborers for Christ. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church.

She leaves to mourn her departure Vivian & Scott Waters of Sikeston, MO; Mildred & Henry Logsdon, Kansas City, MO; Verna Lee & Boyd Claywell of Nixa, MO; Archie Jr & Grace Hogue of Millbrae, CA; and Bill & Maxine Hogue of Nixa, MO; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hogue of Sharpsburg, IA; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Ussery of Mtn Grove, MO; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 4 pm on Saturday, April 1, 1989, in First Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Blackwell officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home.



Archelaus A Hogue was born in Laclede County, MO near Lebanon, son of Lewis & Linda (Price) Hogue. He died August 8, 1975 in Springfield MO at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 2 days.

On September 7, 1913 at Cabool, he was united in marriage to Bessie Ann Adams and to this long and happy union, seven children were born. Two sons preceded him in passing, as have three brothers and two sisters.

They lived in the Cabool area for several years, then moved to Tarkio, MO where they remained until moving back to Cabool in 1940. In 1938 he was ordained to preach the gospel and was a minister of the Free Will Baptist Church. For many years he served various churches in the area including: Faith & Hope, where he was a member; Mt Pisgah, Gladden, Pleasant Home and Clear springs. Truly a man of the Lord, always speaking His word wherever he was, he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In failing health the past few years, he continued to serve Christ until the very end. Beside his ministerial work, he also had worked as a carpenter and sales work.

He leaves his wife, Bessie of the home; two sons-Bill of Nixa, MO and Archie Jr of Millbrae, CA; three daughters- Vivian Waters, Sikeston MO, Mildred Logsdon, Kansas City MO and Verna Lee Smith, St Louis MO; one brother, John Hogue, Willard; and six sisters-Hada Breazile, Tarkio MO, Delpha Beisner, Battle Creak IA, Elgie Laub, Neosho MO , Lena Timmons, Springfield MO, Grace Mullins, Rogers Ar and Ella Mae Russell, Jane, MO. Also, 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were Tuesday, August 12,1975 in the Cabool Free Will Baptist Church with Rev Mas Courtney and Clyde Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home.
