Howard Stephen Mueller, 84, son of Samuel Emil Mueller and Emma Augusta Hanke Mueller, was born Feb. 20, 1919, on the family farm northwest of Kearney in Buffalo County, Neb. He died Nov. 2, 2003, at the Kabul Nursing Home at Cabool. He was baptized at the Methodist church at Riverdale, Neb., and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church of Kearney, Neb. He attended P.S. 78 and Hawthorne School at Kearney. After the death of his mother, he lived with his uncle, Albert Hanke at Lindsey, Neb. He later attended technical school in Omaha and worked in the aircraft industry in California. He worked for the U.S. Navy at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego, Calif., for many years.
After his retirement, he settled to a farm near Elk Creek. He enjoyed the quiet country life as a gentleman farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lucile Leonia Saylor. Surviving is an older brother, Ret. Col. Harold W. Mueller, M.D. of Sierra Vista, Ariz. Services are 2 o'clock today (Thursday) at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel in Houston. Burial will be in the Tyrone Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
