Eva Jeanne Malcolm, 88, daughter of John and Eva "Cliff" Malcolm, was born May 29, 1917, at Los Angeles, Calif. She died Sept. 10, 2005, after a brief stay at Houston House Nursing Center.
For the last 58 years, she made her home in a log cabin on U.S. 63 known as the "Rabbit Farm." During her lifetime, she farmed, carried the mail on a rural route during World War II and was a milk tester for Dairy Herd Improvement Association for 37 years. After retiring, she worked her love of travel and camping into a job inspecting campgrounds for Rand-McNally.
She enjoyed camping, fishing, going to auctions, reading and listening to music from Hank Williams to Elvis Presley to Liberace.
She designed and made wooden toys for the gift shop at Texas County Memorial Hospital. She used her artistic talent in making patterns for hooked rugs her mother made. She loved animals and birds, making homes for various cats and dogs over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her best friend, Ruth Vanderlinden of the home at Cabool; and sister, Helen Jermyn of Hollister.
Graveside services were Sept. 12 at the Tyrone Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Humane Society or other animal care facility.
