Sterling W. King, age 89 of the Atlas Community, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Born September 7, 1917 in Jasper, MO, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Creola Patrick King and lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. He retired from Atlas Powder Co. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Duenweg.
On September 14, 1940 he married Olive Olga Smith in Benton County, AR. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2001. A son, Johnathan King and a daughter, Ann Elaine King also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Kenny King and wife Shirley of the home, Steven King and wife Rose, of Kansas City; a brother, Melbert King of Sarcoxie, MO; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30th at Sterling Cemetery at Atlas with Paul Miliken, chaplain officiating. Pallbearers will be James Hill, James Carpenter, Mike King, Joe Phillips, John King and Kenneth L. King. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. The family will be at Sterling's home.
The family would like to thank the staff at Trinity Hospice, The Alzheimer's Association, Area Agency on Aging and a special friend, Ed.
