Robert Richard Holden, son of J.W. And Sarah Palmer Holden was born in Texas County on Jan. 4, 1892 and departed this life on Mar. 31, 1961 at his home near Cabool, making his age 69 years two months and 26 days.
On Jan. 17, 1917 was united in marriage to Tena Reed and to this union two children were born, one of whom preceded him in death in infancy.
Bob spent most of his working day doing timber work. He has been in ill health for over 30 years, but his cheerful attitude over shadowed most of his sickness and gave strength to others.
Also preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Tena of the home, one daughter, Pearl Short, Mountain Grove; one brother, Lon Holden, Lacgne, Kans.; two sisters Anna Fields Hutcheson, Kans. and Clara Altis, Severy, Kans. Also three grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of other relatives, friends and many neighbors will mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4 at 2:30 p.m. In Elliott-Gentry Funeral Home with Delmar Poe officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery. [Cabool Enterprise]
Tena Prucellia Reed was born in Douglas County, March 1, 1896, the daughter of Orlando and Rhoda Elliott Reed. She passed away November 7, 1980 at age 84 years eight months and eight days.
She was a lifelong resident of the Cabool area, widely known and respected as a honest, hardworking person, who will be missed. She was united in marriage to Robert Holden on January 17, 1917 and to this union two children were born. A son died in infancy and her husband preceded in 1961, also, a sister and five brothers.
She believed in the Protestant faith and had attended a Methodist Church. Survivors are a daughter, Pearl Short, Cabool; a brother Herbert Reed, Monett, a sister, Lily Holt, Harrington, Kansas, three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many other realtives. Services were 4 p.m. Wednesday, November 12 in Elliott-Gentry Chapel with Rev. Charley Collins officiating. Burial was in Cabool Cemetery. [Cabool Enterprise]
