Funeral services for Florence Imogene "Jean" Christopher, 87, West Plains, were Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in the Rose Chapel, Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mrs. Christopher died at 6:10 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at West Vue Nursing Center. She was born March 18, 1923, in Howell County, Mo., to Hank and Meda Cearley Pitman. On April 5, 1944, she was married to Kenneth Eugene Christopher, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Christopher was a schoolteacher for 30 years and received her master's degree from Drury University. She began her teaching career in several one-room schoolhouses; she also taught at Richards School and Foster Elementary School, where she was a head teacher before her retirement. She was a member of the Missouri Retired Teacher's Association, and a member of the West Plains Country Club, where she enjoyed playing and watching golf. She had special and cherished friends in the "The Birthday Club" and her "Chicken Foot Domino Club." Mrs. Christopher was a member of the First Baptist Church of West Plains, Missouri for more than 50 years, having taught Sunday School for most of those years. She is survived by her son, David Christopher, wife, Joyce, West Plains; her sister, Joann Williams, Springfield, Mo.; her brother-in-law, George Bryan Spence, wife, Wanda, West Plains; her nephew, Dan Williams, wife, Valerie, West Plains, her nieces, Carol Powell, husband, Joe, Golden, Colo., and Beverly Spence, Waynesville, Mo.; great nieces, Amy Spencer, husband, Justin, Caulfield, Mo., and Sarah Adler, husband, Michael, Mountain Home, Ark.; great nephew, Spencer Powell; great-great-niece and nephew, Molly and Eli Spencer; as well as many special cousins, including Robin Mustion, husband, Richard, Tecumseh, Mo. Her parents; husband; her sister, Betty Spence; brother-in-law, Dale Williams; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Brown and Theresa Wilkinson, precede her in death. Burial was at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Society and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
