JOHN COBB LAMSON, '57

John Cobb Lamson died February 1 1913, at Pineville MO.

John Cobb Lamson was born November 29 1827, in Jefferson Co NY. His ancestry was of stern material, many of them being followers of Roger Williams into the wilderness. He also counted as part of his inheritance the blood of the Huguenots. Mr. Lamson entered the preparatory department from Johnson IN in 1849, and the College in 1853, completing the work and being graduated with the class of 1857. He entered the University of Albany and received the degree of LL.D. He entered the Civil War as private in Company B, 17th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, April 1861. In January 1862, he was made First Lieutenant and in December was made Captain of the company. In 1866 he moved to Pineville MO, and here he spent his life. He served as School Commissioner of the County, was twice elected Prosecuting Attorney and represented the County in the Legislature of 1870-71. He served as Circuit Judge of his judicial district from 1893 to 1899. Mr. Lamson was married November 13 1872, to Miss Lois A. Stanley who survives him.
